Grace's capstone is focused around two dresses, one wedding dress and another for the Maid of Honor. She also plans on having a display of her sketches of other possible outfits she wishes to make, showing her Studio Art ability.
What's finished so far:
- A wedding dress and veil
- Sketches inspired by nature
What she's working on this semester:
- the second dress (has sketches)
- figuring out the display (also has a sketch)
The Second dress
- Is made of a red fabric matching the sash on the wedding dress
- A silhouette.
For the display:
- Have a stage with the two dresses on it. The wedding dress will be more forward than the second dress. On the wall, she wants to have a tree on the wall with her images hanging on thew branches. The sketches will be in watercolor.
Questions about the display:
- Where will you be getting mannequins or dress forms? From the Theater Department?
- What is the tree made of? Why a tree? If the symbolizes your growth of art, what makes that unique to you? Is there another way you can display without the tree because it doesn't seem to match? Anything more related to the Chinese wedding ceremony?
What are Chinese weddings like?
- in a building or restaurant
- the ceremony focuses on the couple and then ends with them promising each to the other.
What about a bridal store window? can you design like that?
Or a background as a curtain?
Will you be framing your images? How do you wish to display them?
Look into wedding ceremonies and a unique way ti display your sketches.
I like Grace's project because not only does it touch her on a personal level because of making the wedding dress for a friend, but it's also her degree in China, which seems to be the direction she wishes to take. I was a little sad she didn't have the dress there to see because it's finished. The last time we saw it, we only saw the top finished. She is very skilled at sewing, and I look forward to see the dresses. The fabric itself is intriguing, because I imagine the red fabric is silk or some sort of shiny fabric, but I can't wait to see it!
I am a Student.
As a student at Marietta College, I must finish a capstone. Being an English and Art major, naturally I must do two. Fear not, this blog only involves my complicated thought process of the latter. My English capstone is too much of a mystery to even think about...

Happy New Year!
I have returned to Marietta after a long, much-needed break. I worked hard on my capstone, but didn't get as far as I wanted to. I did want to finish three or four pieces, but instead I was able to finish one and a half. I underestimated the amount of time it takes to make one piece. I want to really concentrate on quality over quantity in this situation.
Although I technically have finished a piece, I am willing to return to it to make it even better. At the moment, I just need more work done, so that's my focus.
